Evaluation 7

Evaluation Task 7: What progress have you made since your preliminary task?

After doing our preliminary task earlier in the year, there is many things we have progressed on, such as our camerawork and editing skills. But of course there was one error we had done which was the 180 rule. However, as a group we had learnt to not break the 180  rule by switching the camera positions. When we had sorted our error, it was useful and effective as it wouldn't of confused the audience when they were watching our film.

Another thing in which we had improved since doing our preliminary task, was by adding sound to our work. When editing the preliminary task, we didn't add any non-diegetic in the background when each scene came on. This had made the task very plain and not effective for the audience. But when we edited sound on our film, Return of Kezia, it made the film tense and engaging for the audience. The soundtrack we used made our film better as it affected the mood to set in the scene.

Another thing we did which was good, was making our camera shots and angles look so much better as we wanted to use different shots and angles in different scenes we had filmed. For example to show the relationship between the characters, we used two shots in our final project, but in our preliminary task we did not use them. In Return Of Kezia, we used a lot of over the shoulder shots, this is because it was effective and it gave the effect of looking from a characters point of view. We also used a few medium shots as this showed us the facial expressions of the character and we wanted the audience to engage with the film as they would know what the character is feeling.

Here is an example of a medium shot we used in our final film. It gives the effect of the antagonist facial expressions making it tense for the audience as they are getting the first look of what Anna looks like and what she is doing.
